When you think about the flower garden, the very first thing comes into our minds are roses. Roses are the most incredible, elegant and fragrant flower which capture everyone’s eye and mind. Roses are available in lots of varieties, colors, looks, fragrance, sizes and shapes. Rose plant can be grown indoors and outdoors in a garden soil or in containers. Apart from inexperienced home growers, commercial growers also grow roses that retrieve them rewarding returns.
Many growers believe that growing rose plant is a challenging task. But growing rose plant is not that difficult if you know how to care and maintain. If you understand the needs of rose plant and give them the things they require, you will be rewarded with lots and lots of blooms.
There are several varieties of roses grown world wide, check which kind of roses grows well in your region before starting your flower gardening. Most popular kind of roses are Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, Climber roses, Miniature roses and Tree roses. Grow your rose plant from cuttings or buy from your local nursery. Rose plant requires minimum of 6 hours of sunlight so make sure you choose the location where they can get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. If you are not able to provide them the sunlight then you can grow them indoors under the grow lights.
The most successful way to grow rose plant is propagating from rose cuttings. Check for the healthy rose plant and Cut the rose stem below the node. Use a sharp nippers to cut the stem. Make sure you cut a medium sized stem at least 4 inches long not more than 12 inches. Keep two leaves on the top and remove all the leaves and side stems from the cuttings. Take a sharp knife and cut the bottom of the stem in an angle and then dip it into rooting hormone which will help the stem to grow root faster.
Rose plant require slight acidic soil pH of around 6.5. Prepare your soil by adding plenty of organic material like compost, grass clippings and leaves from your yard and ensure that the soil have good drainage and moisture retention. Place the cutting at a diagonal slanting into the soil pushing them at least 2 inch deep. Before you plant them, water the soil thoroughly but do not make them sloggy. Rose plants prefer good moisture holding soil but well drained.
Water the cuttings everyday and diligently. Rose plant need a steady source of water during the growing season, about 1 inch a week. Water the plants near the roots not on the leaves. In few weeks there will be a root growth and you will see the set of true leaves growing out of the stem. Apply base nutrients to your plant as rose love to be fed while growing. Roses are hungry plant so fed them with liquid base nutrients while growing and blooming period.
To get a maximum blooms and to give a proper shape prune your rose plant in early spring. Remove all the dead, damaged and extra stems from your rose plant. Use sharp and clean knife to prune your plant. Once your plant start blooming enjoying keeping them on the plant or collect and keep for decoration.
Keep your rose fresh for two to three days. Cut the rose stem with a sharp clean scissors and submerge into luke warm water. Make sure to cut the end of the stem at a slight angle and keep them in vase. Change the water everyday. This way you can keep the rose fresh for a week. To preserve hang them upside down and spray them with hairspray this will keep them fresh.
