Tomatoes grows best in deep, well-drained soil. They cherish full sun, plenty of organic matter and specific amount of water. They grow well in tropical areas. In cold regions you can grow in green house, indoors and in hydroponics.
Purchase a high and good quality of tomato seed from your local nursery or from online websites. Or you can collect your own seeds from a ripe tomato. Get a healthy and ripe tomato squeeze it in a bowl or scoop out the flesh into a bowl. Wash the seeds several times in water so that the flesh gets removed and finally strain it. Dry the seeds for few days.
Plant your tomato seed in a seedling tray or prepare a small pot with a mixture of ½ peat moss, 1/3 coarse vermiculite and 1/3 of compost. Best time to plant tomato seeds is after the danger of frost. Plant 3 to 4 seeds ¼ inch deep in soil and cover the seed lightly with soil. Keep the pot in a place where the temperature should be 70 to 80 degrees F till the germination of seeds. Keep misting the seeds everyday. It will take 7 to 10 days to sprout. Once the germination takes place move the plant into full sun or keep them under grow lights.
Transplant your plant into the soil once the seedlings grow 3 to 4 true set leaves. Before you plant them into soil don’t forget to test the soil for pH level. Tomatoes grow well in pH between 6 and 7. If your soil is below 6 pH then add lime to your soil to raise the pH level. If your soil pH is above 7 then mix granular sulfur to lower the pH level.
Prepare your garden with well-drained soil and with a good amount of organic matter and also check for the expose of sunlight directly to the plants. Your plant should get at least 6 to 7 hours of sunlight everyday. Dig a hole into the soil of about 2 feet deep and add organic matter such as compost into the hole before you plant. Transplant your tomato seedlings inside the hole removing it carefully from the plant. Make sure you do not disturb the roots while transplanting your seedling.
Plant the seedling deep inside so the soil touches the first set of true leaves when you cover the plant. New roots will rapidly grow on the stems. More roots will keep your plant healthy and produce healthy more fruits. Water you plants deeply but don’t over water the plant. While watering them make sure you water directly on the soil not on leaves.
Keep your tomato plant grow in a single stem, remove the suckers it will help your plant to concentrate more on fruits. Fertilize every two weeks with seaweed solution or with a dilute fish emulsion fertilizer. Keep stacks or supporter for your plants that will prevent your plant from breaking. Keep an eye on your plant everyday for pests and diseases.
